Cast Away= Cast Me Away

“The most beautiful thing in the world is off course the world itself”

Cast Away is a great movie about love and survival skills that resides on the shoulders of Chuck (Tom Hanks). Tom Hanks was the best actor for this movie, no one could have done it better, he did this movie so realistically and effortlessly, his emotions drifted me away. His enthuse to fight for his life and go back to meet Kelly was really commendable. This might just be a movie for everyone else but this is life for me. Chuck's manic existence abruptly ends when, after a plane crash, he becomes isolated on a remote island – he got casted away into the most desolate environment imaginable. The plane crash was unfortunate but his survival was sure, the way he survived in the island was just amazing. Stripped of the conveniences of everyday life, he first must meet the basic needs of survival, including water, food and shelter. Chuck, the consummate problem solver, eventually figures out how to sustain himself physically. But then what? Chuck begins his personal journey. The way he learns from his mistakes, the way he figures out the way of uncultured living was awesome. The way he learns how to drink coconut water using a sharp edged stone, the way he made those shoes with leaves was very creative, the bandage he made when he got wounded was also a good survival line of attack, the technique used by him by using the blade of ice skates to make an axe to cut down the trees to make the boat was superb, and boat was his ultimate survival skilled object. This movie also showed that a human being is a social animal, Chuck had a reflex for loving Kelly, that is why he gave away his life to save the hand watch with her photo in it and preserved it carefully even though it stopped working and in the end he gave her back the watch but kept the photo, loving Kelly was not just his emotions rather it was his way of living and the only means of living, the way Chuck got emotionally involved with Wilson- The volleyball might sound stupid but it was the biggest factor for his survival and the most significant also because if he didn’t find Wilson, he would have died of isolation itself. He Had just enough essentials to survive for four years and to make a way for his escape. The 2nd part of the movie starts with a different Chuck who becomes an expert in all the things, this was showed when he threw his fishing line and it ended with killing the fish perfectly. He ends up as a tanned, muscled and skinny survivor with long hair and beard. This shows his uncomfortable and hard life for four years. And in the end, He doesn’t want to eat all the delicious cooked food because he was used to the natural raw food for 4 years.

There was a moment in the movie when Chuck wanted to end it all over, when he said these lines “ I was going to die there, totally alone. I was going to get sick, or get injured or something. The only choice I had, the only thing I could control was when, and how, and where it was going to happen. So, I made a rope and I went up to the summit, to hang myself. I had to test it, you know? Off course, you know me. And the weight of the log snapped the limb of the tree. So, I couldn't even kill myself the way I wanted to. I had power over nothing. And that's when this feeling came over me like a warm blanket. I knew, somehow, that I had to stay alive. Somehow, I had to keep breathing. Even though there was no reason to hope. And all my logic said that I would never see this place again. So that's what I did, I stayed alive, I kept breathing. And one day my logic was proven all wrong because the tide came in, and gave me a sail. And now, here I am. I am back. I am in Memphis, talking to you. I have ice in my glass” But, he had the fire within him which led him forward to return to Memphis, he had the zeal, the enthuse, the desire to live.

The Only Message this movie gives is “Nothing is impossible even when the chances are very less, we are the ones who can change that mere fraction to a perfect one”
